Recycling

Somerset Waste Partnership

This is the organisation which coordinates domestic recycling in the county. They gave a talk to the group in June 2016. Here is a copy of that presentation:

(Re-Use) – Cartridge World in Street, (Unit 3, The Bayliss Centre, High Street, Street, Somerset, BA16 0EX, www.cartridgeworld.org) promise to refill “almost any brand of inkjet cartridge”. They also “remanufacture almost any brand of toner cartridge”.

Printer Cartridges (Recycling) – Jacqui Redman is collecting spent laser toner and inkjet cartridges. Please just make sure they are put back into their original packaging and leave outside her door at Wayside, Combe Batch, Wedmore. She collects them in aid of the Dogs Trust. She will also take oldphones.

The SWP pages, link below lists the 30+ materials they take, including common items that they do not (yet) take at the kerbside, such as Tetra Pak beverage cartons or cooking oil (10,000 litres and counting), the procedures for hazardous materials, as well as opening hours (Bridgwater now seven days 8am-4pm) etc:

All the local supermarkets at Highbridge, Cheddar, Wells and Burnham will take batteries for recycling, any local opticians take spectacles for reuse, chemists take inhalers (Coop and others), and nearby groups take tools, bicycles and more, more info is listed here.

We also hold Freecycle days each year; for information on the next one please go to the Events section. This is where you can bring all those things you don’t need anymore but that someone else may like. It is like a car boot sale but with no money changing hands. All we ask is that anything of yours that isn’t collected is not left at the venue.

We have a site on the Freecycle website which is an online version of our Freecycle days so you can give away your unwanted stuff all through the year. Click here to join.

The dentists in the village accept old toothbrushes for recycling
